Wow... has it really been a year already?!?! August 26, 2021 - Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana as a catagory 4 hurricane, although at certain points reaching catagory 5 winds. The Poor Friars & Nuns ended up staying during the hurricane, taking shelter at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church's rectory. Even though the rectory is in very bad shape, the Poor Friars & Nuns were safe with Jesus within (Fr. Antonio celebrated a private community Mass before the storm arrived) & among them (in the Tabernacle that's kept in the Poor Nuns' Convent Chapel).
The next day, the Poor Friars & Nuns looked around at the damage left by the hurricane. They had no running water, electricity, nor power for several weeks! The friary had much damage, but fortunately the rectory at Holy Family Church in Dulac was in good condition. The friars are currently living there as Fr. Antonio is the pastor there & Fr. Nathaniel as the parocial vicar. To the Community's surprise, the convent was still in good condition & the nuns are currently still in residence.
After the hurricane, the Poor Friars & Nuns concentrated their time & effort helping parishioners at Holy Family to recover. The recovery process is still ongoing (as is the whole diocese has been majorly affected) but overall it has been a beautiful & grace-filled experience!
